One of our very own officials, Monty McCutchen, who is now NBA Senior Vice President, Head of Referee Development and Traning, has posted an announcement on October 18, 2021.  The announcement was made in reference to their decision in promoting new NBA staff officials for the 2021-22 NBA season.

Another one of IPABOA's officials that have come through our program, has been promoted as a full-time NBA staff official for the 2021-22 season.  Congratulations to Danielle Scott, along with John Conley and Brandon Schwab.

As one of our campers of the year in 2015, Danielle Scott demonstrated excellent rule knowledge as well as on-court presence.  Congratulations again Danielle!  We're all very excited for the three of you.

Here's the article below.

NEW YORK, Oct. 18, 2021 – NBA G League referees John Conley, Brandon Schwab, and Danielle Scott have been promoted to full-time NBA staff officials for the 2021-22 season, it was announced today by Monty McCutchen, NBA Senior Vice President, Head of Referee Development and Training.

“Congratulations to John, Brandon, and Danielle on their advancement to our full-time staff,” said McCutchen. “Each official has diligently worked at the craft and performed at a level to merit officiating NBA games on a regular basis.”

Scott joins Lauren Holtkamp-Sterling, Ashley Moyer-Gleich, Simone Jelks, Natalie Sago, and Jenna Schroeder as full-time female officials for the 2021-22 season.

New Full-Time NBA Staff Officials

Danielle Scott has four seasons of NBA G League officiating experience. She worked 26 NBA regular-season games as a non-staff official during the 2020-21 season. Fight for Tony Brown

In this business, we officials only have each other to fall back upon.  As a crew when one goes down, so does the crew.  We’ve mentally adapted to the philosophy of working for the betterment of the game, the crew and then you.

One of our officials in the NBA found out that he has Pancreatic cancer, which has ended his season/career early.  (https://www.nbra.net/tonys-fight/) Please show your support for a fellow official, Tony Brown in his fight against pancreatic cancer.

We will be placing a link on the front page to show support for Tony Brown's fight.

Tony’s Story

Tony Brown, a respected veteran NBA referee, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April 2021.

The NBRA is joining forces with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) to raise awareness and critical research funding for patients like Tony and the nearly 61,000 others expected to be diagnosed this year.

Tony Brown has spent most of his life surrounded by basketball. In high school, Brown earned All-State basketball honors at Amos P. Godby in Tallahassee, Fla. He attended Florida A&M before transferring to Clark Atlanta University, a historically black college and university (HBCU), where he received a bachelor’s degree in Finance.

Tony, 54, has officiated over 1,071 regular-season games and 35 playoff games in 19 seasons as an NBA official. He has worked the 2018 and 2021 NBA All-Star games. Prior to joining the NBA, he worked for four seasons in both the NBA G League and CBA, and three seasons in the WNBA. During that time, he refereed the 2002 WNBA Finals, the 2002 WNBA All-Star Game, and the 2001 CBA Finals.

Tony lives in Atlanta with his wife Tina and their three children Bailey, Basile, and Baylen. He’s spent nearly every day of his life on basketball courts, and for the past 25 years, on his feet running. Whether officiating, training or keeping up with his three children, Tony has been on the move. It wasn’t until the end of April 2021 when Tony made a trip to the doctor for some bothersome stomach discomfort that this changed.

Tony’s visit to the doctor identified blood clots near his lungs that could have killed him had he gotten on a plane, which he was just about to do. Tony is currently undergoing chemotherapy and has adopted a vegan diet.

Tony is supported by his wife Tina, his family, friends, the entire NBA community and thanks PanCAN and its Patient Services program for the invaluable resources and help during this time.

“As Tony Brown undergoes his treatment for pancreatic cancer, I have no doubt that he will show the same dedication, toughness, and resolve that has made him one of the most talented and respected officials in the NBA. My colleagues and I are keeping Tony in our thoughts and stand with him and his family.”

– Adam Silver, NBA Commissioner

In support of Tony, join us and take bold action to improve the lives of everyone impacted by pancreatic cancer. With your donation, PanCAN will fund more research, more life-changing programs, and more support for patients and their families.

NBA Board of Governors Approves Instant Replay Rule Changes

NEW YORK, Sept. 29, 2021 – The NBA Board of Governors today approved changes to the league’s instant replay rules on a one-year trial basis for the 2021-22 season.

In an effort to improve game flow, particularly at the end of games, the NBA has eliminated referee-initiated replay review of out-of-bounds violations during the last two minutes of the fourth period and the last two minutes of any overtime period.  In conjunction, the league has also extended the Coach’s Challenge so that teams can trigger replay review of out-of-bounds violations throughout the entire game.  Previously, coaches could not challenge an out-of-bounds ruling in the last two minutes.

The NBA’s Competition Committee – comprised of players, coaches, governors, team executives and referees – recommended the changes to the instant replay rules before the Board of Governors’ vote.
